National Arts Leadership Institute® (NALI)
Both Carnegie Mellon University and NCSA have professionally-oriented, graduate school programs with curriculum designed for entry into the workplace. Both institutions endorse adult-learning theory and are interested in skill and knowledge development through continuing education. The NALI partnership extends learning opportunities for performing artists and performing arts professionals at different times throughout the year. The Institute teaches artists how to improve their business skills and helps arts professionals build the capacities of their organizations. NALI Philosophy for Professional DevelopmentNALI curriculum distinguishes between students who are considering potential career paths and adult learners who are already pursuing their careers. NALI partners have learned that working adults respond to educational services that acknowledge their personal experiences within the learning process. Real-world content, innovative instructional methods, and audience-specific customization characterize NALI professional development. Application in the Work EnvironmentNALI understands that education for working adults must be applicable to their careers and personal lives and must also be a source of career advancement, professional renewal, and personal growth. For the learning experience to be academically and practically sound, it must provide information and instruction that reflects issues and conditions found in the current work environment of artists and arts professionals.
