Registration is closed.

This weekend welcomes public sector and academic folklorists, community scholars, students, and anyone interested in traditional culture.

We’re pleased to announce the joint Folklorists in the South and Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation retreat, Saturday-Monday, June 19-21, 2010. Our meeting theme, Folk Vérité: Folklife in Film & Video, will explore the use of film and video as documentation and storytelling.

We will gather in beautiful Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the Aqueduct Conference Center. Our host venue is centrally located to numerous academic and traditional arts resources. This is a gathering you will not want to miss!

Highlights include fieldtrips to the legendary Bynum General Store for an evening of music; a tour and lunch at the Center for Documentary Studies; and an opportunity to explore one of the South’s most significant depositories, the Southern Folklife Collection.

Our professional development session will be presented by Tom Davenport, award-winning founder and director of FolkStreams.net. We’ll also feature sessions on equipment and preservation, using videography to teach about intangible material culture, and, of course, movie screenings. We’ll even supply the popcorn!
