FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FY09)
1. Who is eligible to apply?
Nonprofit and government presenting organizations in SAF’s nine-state region (AL, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN) are eligible to apply.
2. When is the application deadline?
• The postmark deadline for NEA/SAF Regional Touring is March 3rd.
• The postmark deadline for all other grant programs is 60 days prior to the project start date.
3. What are some of the project requirements?
• Eligible projects must take place in SAF’s nine-state region (AL, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN) between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.
• Projects must include a public performance or reading, AND an educational component. The public performance, reading and/or educational/outreach component must target and reach an underserved community.
• A presenter cannot request funding for artists/groups who reside in the presenter’s state.
4. What is the maximum request?
Maximum requests vary per program.
• NEA/SAF Regional Touring – 50% of the artist fee, up to $7,500 (dance projects) or $5,000 (non-dance projects)
• Southern Fast Track Touring – 50% of the artist fee, up to $2,500
• Technical Assistance – 50% of the consultant fee, up to $2,500
5. Is a cash match required?
Yes, SAF requires a dollar-for-dollar cash match.
6. How many applications can be submitted?
• NEA/SAF Regional Touring – two (2) per fiscal year (NOTE: Please be advised that due to reduced funding, applicants with two recommended applications may receive only partial funding for one project.)
• Southern Fast Track Touring – one (1) per fiscal year
• Technical Assistance – one (1) per fiscal year
NOTE: Generally an applicant can receive no more than $15,000 per SAF fiscal year.
