About the Artist
The Catharsis Trio, a smaller and more intimate version of Ryan Keberle’s Catharsis, was formed in 2017 when Kohei Kawakami asked trombonist Ryan Keberle to pare the group down to a trio for a Japan tour. Since then, the group has continued to build on the band's chemistry and uniquely intimate sound through recorded and performative experiences. The band was featured in NPR’s prestigious Tiny Desk Concert series and on the French TV channel Mezzo. The ensemble consists of Ryan Keberle, bandleader / trombone / keyboards / voice / composer / arranger, Camila Meza, guitar / voice / composer / arranger and originally from Chile, and Jorge Roeder, bass / voice / composer / arranger.
The trio embarked on a West Coast USA tour in 2019, including performances at Redwood Jazz Alliance in Arcata, CA, The Seasons Performance Hall in Yakima, WA, The Fox Theater in Spokane, WA, and The 1905 in Portland, OR. They have conducted workshops at Humboldt State, Portland State, Western Washington and Whitworth Universities. Additionally, the members of The Catharsis Trio have toured extensively together in the larger quintet version of the band on the national and international stage engaging audiences at the Toronto, Ottawa, Rochester, Iowa City and Bergamo International Jazz Festivals. They’ve performed at premier jazz clubs including Pizza Express (London), Le Duc des Lombards (Paris), Stadtgarten (Cologne), Jazz Standard and Jazz at Lincoln Center (New York) and Blue Whale (Los Angeles), among many others.
