Synopsis

My documentary films often focus on topics of identity, counter-culture communities, social justice, and environmental issues. This is a community-engaged practice reliant on the participation of people who agree to be documented and then for a wider range of communities to agree to exhibit and host events around the discussion of the work. My practice starts with curiosity and creative interest, leads to investigation via fieldwork, and ultimately becomes a collaborate process working with individuals and their communities to tell a story meant to inspire continued conversation upon exhibition. It is always important to build strong, long-lasting relationships with the communities involved and to ensure they have agency and transparency in the work and resulting outcomes. This is an ethical commitment I honor with each new project through continued dialogue and engagement with participants through all stages of production, exhibition, and distribution. My intention is to have meaningful impact by raising awareness, sparking discussion and motivating action when applicable.
