In 2019 he founded the Soul/Funk Collective Outer Orbit with vocalist Sarah Clarke (The Motet, Portugal the Man), which features an all-star cast of some Portland and the PNW's top jazz and funk musicians. As an educator, Galen has been teaching piano and organ lessons in the Portland area for over 20 years and mentored students from the Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble Young Jazz Composers program. Patterns Fly is a collaboration between Seattle-based guitarist Andy Coe (Skerik Band, McTuff, Andy Coe Band) and Seattle-based drummer D'Vonne Lewis (Digable Planets, McTuff, Industrial Revelation) and Portland keyboardist Galen Clark (Outer Orbit, Trio Subtonic, Anna Tivel).
Patterns Fly brings a genre bending approach to the classic organ trio instrumentation, exploring entropic soundscapes, psychedelic funk and groove heavy electronic influenced jazz.
