About the Artist

The Jalen Baker Quartet consists of Jalen Baker, vibraphone, Paul Cornish, piano, Gavin Moolchan, drums, and Gabriel Godoy, bass. Jalen plans to promote his debut album during his Jazz Road Tour.  Jalen’s quartet has performed at Jazz Showcase in Chicago, Cezanne Jazz Club in Houston, Timucua Arts in Orlando and Good Times Jazz Club in Savannah, Georgia. 

Jalen Baker,  was born in Washington, DC and raised in Houston, TX. Heis a vibraphonist, percussionist, educator, and composer whose early training involved both classical and jazz music. He decided rather early on to focus on jazz and in May 2017, Jalen received his BA in Jazz Studies from Columbia College Chicago. While matriculating at Columbia College Jalen studied with percussionist Jarrett Hicks. He’s received several accolades including outstanding soloist at both the Notre Dame and Elmhurst Jazz Festivals and was one of two students chosen to represent Columbia at the Arcevia Jazz Festival in Arcevia Italy. Jalen has  also hosted the Jazz Jam with the Columbia Chicago Fusion ensemble at the 2017 J.E.N. conference in New Orleansand was chosen to be a member of the Jazz Institute of Chicago’s NextGenJazz program.
