Southern Circuit

Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers LogoEngaging Audiences with Films and Discussions

Southern Circuit brings the best of new independent film to communities across the South. Audiences have seen over 300 films in more than 100 Southern communities. The Circuit takes the audience away from their televisions, computers, tablets and phones to connect them with independent filmmakers – live! Southern Circuit transforms watching film from a solitary experience into a communal one. South Arts works collaboratively with Screening Partners to expand their programming; provide audiences with the opportunity to meet filmmakers and learn about the art of filmmaking; and encourage community engagement using film as a conduit for discussions about social and community issues. Invited filmmakers have the opportunity to screen their work for new audiences in addition to being paid and having travel costs provided for screenings!

Get involved in the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers:

  • Screening Partners are venues throughout the South with whom we work to build new audiences for independent film. We work with Screening Partners to curate the selected films and filmmakers, create audience development strategies, and develop connections between partners for regional tours of six films over the course of the season. And, since South Arts covers each filmmaker’s honorarium, participation won’t hurt your budget! Allow us to help you bring your community together to experience great films! Apply to become a Screening Partner.
  • Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their work through FilmFreeway beginning December 1, 2016. Our team and the screening partners select approximately 20 filmmakers and their films to journey through the South for two weeks. Filmmakers conduct screenings, participate in workshops and Q&As, and get paid to explore the region! Submit your film.
  • Audiences are the most important part of the Southern Circuit. Check out our season schedule, follow us on Twitter and Instagram, and attend a screening in your home community. View the schedule.
  • Film Reviewers are needed each spring to help review all entries for the upcoming season. Get a sneak peek of some amazing new films and lend your services to support independent film. Help review films.
