Award levels:
South Arts will provide up to $750 per awardee. Some states in our service region are offering an additional (up to) $500 matching grant for their residents. These states include: Alabama, Kentucky, and North Carolina.
South Arts strongly encourages you to make your hotel and travel arrangements as soon as possible. We realize that you may be waiting on a scholarship to finalize your travel arrangements. However, applying for a scholarship does not guarantee an award.
A limited number of scholarships to cover the registration fee are offered to individuals in the South Arts region (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee). South Arts will give priority to those applying from rural or small communities. South Arts encourages community teams of two or more to attend the conference, including artists, representatives of arts and cultural organizations, local government, Main Street organizations, community planning & development agencies, higher education, and others who may be likely partners in creative placemaking efforts.
*Note: For this program, “rural or small” is defined as cities/towns with a population of 50,000 or below.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants:
- Individuals working in the arts, community development, local government or other sectors with a commitment to developing creative placemaking or implementing creative placemaking projects in their communities.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Be a resident of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee
All applicants must agree to complete a post-conference evaluation. Failure to complete the post-conference survey will render an applicant ineligible for future South Arts grants and programs.
Selection of Recipients
Applications will be reviewed and scored by South Arts staff for completeness and responsiveness.
South Arts is committed to practices and programs that create greater cultural equity, represent the diversity of our region, are inclusive of diverse voices and artistic expression, and are accessible to everyone.
South Arts will select scholarship recipients to ensure cultural and geographic representations reflective of the South and may prioritize those who have not received a past scholarship for this conference. Awards will be granted based on availability of funds.
Applicants will be reviewed based on this scoring matrix.
Deadline: Complete the online application by 11:59 p.m. EST September 23, 2022. South Arts intends to notify applicants of their status by October 7, 2022.
Usage of Funds
Scholarship recipients will receive up to $750; recipients from certain states, as noted above, may be eligible for additional funding from heir State Arts Agency. The first $300 of each scholarship recipient’s award will be utilized to cover conference registration and applicable fees. The awardee’s remaining funds will be available as a reimbursement towards expenses incurred related to the summit, such as lodging, travel, or a per diem.
All awardees will be required to complete a short, final report to receive the remainder of funds. Please track receipts related to your conference experience: travel, hotel, per diem, etc. South Arts adheres to the IRS Standard Mileage Rate for travel by automobile.
