Alex Hamburger (flute/voice) will tour with her quartet to include Jose Luiz Martins (piano/keys), Tyrone Allen (bass), and Chase Kuesel (drums). Based in Silver Spring, MD, Alex attended SUNY-Purchase as a James Moody Scholar in 2013. In 2017, she was selected to be a member of the Banff Jazz and Creative Music Program under Vijay Iyer and Tyshawn Sorey, as well as a finalist in the 2017 Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Competition. She has played many classic jazz venues such as Smalls, Birdland, The Blue Note, The Stone, Dizzy’s, Rockwood, The Falcon, and Bohemian Caverns, as well as festivals such as The Washington Women in Jazz Festival.

In fall of 2018, Alex was selected to be in the prestigious Focusyear band at the JazzCampus in Basel, Switzerland where she lived, studied and played for a year alongside accomplished and visible artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Seamus Blake, Billy Childs, Dave Liebman and more. The band released an album of original music Open Paths and toured Europe. In 2020 her quartet was chosen to perform at the Mid Atlantic Jazz Festival main stage as a Discovery Act.

In 2021 Alex was a recipient of the Chamber Music America Performance Plus Grant, funded to work alongside her chosen mentor Ingrid Jensen (trumpet). In Fall 2021, she will also be releasing her debut album And She Spoke, a collection of arrangements by female composers and her original music based on poetry by female poets. The album also features Doug Weiss on bass.
