About the Project

Burrage and the Holographic Principle revisit St. Louis roots for week-long residencies in partnership w/ Walt Whitman Theater Brooklyn College PAC, the ZACK at Kranzberg Arts Center in St. Louis, and SUNY-Old Westbury. New music/e-book/and multi-disciplinary work will be produced based on music as a social justice tool, source of healing, and community grounding. Workshops will culminate in performances.

About the Artist

Ronnie Burrage is a percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer and producer. His extended discography showcases his masterful skills as a recording artist. He is currently professor at CUNY Brooklyn College & SUNY Old Westbury College. Ronnie is considered one of the best jazz musicians on the world scene today. He has played with   Michael Brecker, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, Cedar Walton, Woody Shaw, McCoy Tyner, Pepper Adams, Sonny Rollins, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Sonny Fortune, Dianne Reeves, Wallace Roney, Reggie Workman, Jackie & Rene Mclean, James Moody, Gary Bartz, Archie Shepp, John Hicks, The World Saxophone Quartet and is featured on more than 170 recordings. Burrage has toured on all four continents from Siberia to South Africa to Japan. RB stepped into the jazz scene when he debuted at the age of 9 years old, when the legendary bandleader and pianist, Duke Ellington invited him on the stage to accompany him at a performance in St. Louis, Missouri. Over fifty-two years later, he has stamped the genre as one of the most original, musical drummers that many have required his versatile talent, passion and skill. ""Prof Burrage is known not only for his virtuoso ability with all forms of percussion, but as an innovative academic, a composer, producer, and program designer who can put together dramatic musical programs which are deeply educational and altogether entertaining.

As a multifaceted musician and scholar, he has created and taught at the Pennsylvania State University, the New School NYC, The University of Arts Philadelphia & The Berlin Conservatory. Born in St. Louis, Ronnie was known as a child prodigy on the drums. He began playing music with his family, in church in school bands, drum and bugle corps and various neighborhood ensembles. In his pre-teens he began to be mentored by members of BAG, Black Artist Group and was pegged as BAG’s youngest member. Ronnie was inducted into the University City Senior High Hall of Fame in 2013, received his MFAIA from Goddard College in 2015. He's received numerous honors for music and academic achievements, listings and featured articles in a multitude of both national and international music publications.
