Tyler Sheaffer

Ty Sheaffer (they/them), is a basket maker from Berea, Kentucky. Ty focuses on baskets made from both the bark and wood of trees, including willow, white oak, ash, and hickory. Ty is passionate about using simple hand tools and natural, harvested materials, believing that this practice can draw people into a deeper, more intimate, and hopefully reciprocal relationship with the living world around us. They are excited for this opportunity to develop their craft by working with several Appalachian master weavers and conducting research on traditional uses of bark for basketry in Appalachia.
