Atlanta – The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers has announced its selection of fiction and documentary films and filmmakers for the 2014-2015 season.  This year’s tour begins September 2014 and ends in April 2015 with 18 films going on the road with their filmmakers for screenings throughout the South.

Films and filmmakers were selected by a panel of experts and Southern Circuit screening partners in May to embark on multi-week tours throughout the region. The panelists selected 18 films of the hundreds that applied.

“We are very excited for communities throughout the South to experience these films,” said Teresa Hollingsworth, South Arts’ senior program director overseeing the Southern Circuit. “Bringing the filmmakers and their films on tour creates an opportunity for deeply engaging conversations about their work with audiences. This is much richer than the traditional movie-going experience.”

Southern Circuit is the nation’s original regional tour of independent filmmakers and their films. The program provides Southern communities, many of which are smaller and underserved, with a unique opportunity to view independent films and the opportunity to meet the filmmakers. The tour connects audiences with the filmmaker and encourages discussion about the film, its subjects, and the technical aspects of filmmaking.

This year’s screening partners are the Tennessee Valley Art Association, Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University, and the Evelyn Burrow Museum at Wallace State Community College in Alabama; the Creative City Collaborative in Florida; the City of Hapeville Association of Trade & Tourism, the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, the Morris Museum of Art, the Winder Cultural Arts Center, and Oxford College of Emory University in Georgia; Union College in Kentucky; Robinson Film Center in Louisiana; Western Carolina University in North Carolina; Clemson University and Presbyterian College in South Carolina; and Indie Memphis and the Mary B. Martin School of the Arts at East Tennessee State University in Tennessee.

A full schedule with dates that the films and filmmakers will appear with Southern Circuit screening partners will be posted later this summer at southarts.org.

The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers is a program of South Arts. Southern Circuit screenings are funded in part through a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
